Solve : Norton's Help Interface is Pretty Bad? |
|
Answer» I have been trying for an hour (ultimately in vain) to submit the following problem through Norton's website... My subscription to NAV has expired. Were you unable to find a place in their website to submit a request/inquiry? You MIGHT try this URL: http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/subscribe/sub_contact.htmlIt would never go through... It would spin and spin and hang.... Spin and spin and hang.... In FF and IE...Hmmm, I just used that page earlier today and it worked for me. I just looked at again and I noticed there's a link that says "no javascript". If you click on it, the page changes and you can try again. You might try that approach. There is a specific way to remove the Norton Virus. Their website tells you what hoops to jump through., A simple uninstall is not enough. (Doesn't a virus behave that way?)Well I found "the hoops" - you have to download and install there uninstall program, which removes EVERYTHING... So we'll see if I can easily add back SystemWorks WITHOUT AV... If not, screw 'em. What's irritating is, I tried using GoBack to fix a problem yesterday - but it only went back two days. So now that I'm RUNNING the install, it is taking FOREVER to deletethe GoBack history... So I'm guessing there was more there, it just didn't want to use it. Almost 30 minutes into the uninstall, and it's 17% done with "GoBack Disable". (Obviously, I'm running on another machine)OK, I've run all their stuff... Rebooted in Safe and deleted ALL Norton and Symantec folders... Run CCleaner to clean up registry And it is STILL showing "ccApp" in my MSCONFIG/Startup, AND "Automatic LiveUpdate Schedule" in MSCONFIG/Services!!! How do I get rid of THAT???!?Sweet Chocolate Geesus.... I finally got everything out of the registry. Good God what a nightmare. Now I know why people dislike Norton!I BET there are still traces of the Norton virus left on your computer. Welcome back the the real world. [smiley=thumbup.gif] Do you have a Firewall, AV software & AS software for the pests? No. NAV never found anything, so I am going to work on the presumption I am immune. But, just to be safe, I will wear latex gloves and swab the keyboard and ethernet connection with rubbing alcohol once daily. |
