Solve : "not detecting a modem"?

Answer»

Hello...

I just reinstalled windows 98 into an older computer and now it says its not DETECTING a modem. When it has conected to the internet in the past and has had a modem. :-?

Any suggestions on what i could do?
thank youWell, does it have a modem installed now? Do you have connectors on back for the phone line?

Have you ever reinstalled Windows on it before this time? Do you just have the Windows CD or do you have a full system Restore CD that came with the computer when it was new? yea i have it all connected just like i used to when it worked. however now it does not detect a modem.

My computer was not working well and was having trouble starting up so i put in a windows 98 cd and reinstalled win 98. (it had win 98 before it stoped working correctly) Everything else works well besides the fact it does not detect a modem. So, if you look in Device Manager, you see no yellow triangles or unknown devices, right?

And, again, is your CD simply a Microsoft Windows 98 CD, not a CD from a computer manufacturer with their label on it?

Is that modem installed in a ISA or PCI slot? Do you know what BRAND and model it is? If not, download EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 and run it to get a report of everything in your computer. Search through the report for info on a modem or post the report here in the forum.

Take soybeans advice, but the problem is probably that you just haven't reinstalled the drivers for the modem. Being windows 98, it does not automatically install many drivers itself, so you will have to download the drivers from the internet with ANOTHER computer or if you have the cd, you will have to reinstall the drivers using this.nothing is there about a modem. im gonna look through some cds i have tom when i have a CHANCE and see if i have any modem drivers or ANYTHING like that. If i need anythin else ill post here.

Thanks alot for ur guys helpQuote
