Solve : nvidia update winxp pro 3 interupted?

Answer»

hello:  i was updating nvidia when i thought it froze and i've ended up in safte mode.  i removed nvidia update hoping it would fix the problem. oopsmy info: win xp pro SP3  lots of memory, ram etc.  i was downloading an update for nvidia  geforce series 7 when i thought it froze.  It was working for a bit then started turning itself off, still had internet, then went to add/remove to remove nvidia thinking it MIGHT just get rid of the download but actually took out the driver,  then about the 5th time i turned it on again, i couldn't get on the internet.  then i booted and on it's own went to safe mode.  it had said windows recovered from a very serious problem.  in safe mode in devices see that video and ethernet controllers are yellowed out.  i'm on a friends computer and could copy drivers to download onto my desktop.  i've had a really hard time trying to figure out which ethernet i have.  i know the right nvidia i need for my asus motherboard.  i only have the original winxp pro CD hope this is enough Can you install Speccy on your PC to get information on hardwares installed that needed drivers software? You could copy them back and forth on another working computer with internet connection to publish the data. Were there any errors during installing any drivers?I will try but i need to start my computer and see what happens.  last time it started in safe mode, can i put Speccy on a stick (usb) and then just put it into my desktop.  i'm using a brand new laptop, toshiba win 7 home edition. will download from here into the desktop.  i went to device manager and tried to download the driver.   I was asked to put in my winxp CD but that also didn't work,  in the near future i will let you know how the desktop starts.  tyvmSounds to me like you are installing the wrong driver...
And i find it strange that a Win7 PC would ask for an XP CD for a driver install..At any RATE with laptops the correct drivers should always come from the laptop manuf site...nowhere else.sry i wasn't clear, i'm talking to you with my friends new toshiba laptop.  i was just saying i hope i can use this computer to download the drivers i need and put into my xp pro desktop computer.  i don't know which order or which ethernet controller i need.  I have found the correct video controller for the desktop and have it saved on this computer (laptop)  The desktop is not on the internet so i can't use speccy, correct?  Unless i can download it on here and put it on the desktop.  again, don't know how to do that.   i just started up my desktop and it has started in safe mode again.  hope you can help me.  i just worked with another forum expert to get rid of malware and that was fixed and i got the okay from him,  i may have some folders saved from the diagnostic then, will check to see if i have any and in safe mode.    the desktop did not install drivers then asked my to load my xp CD and that did not work either.   any help is appreciated),  ty  i wait your instructionCan you post the complete model/brand of the desktop computer and the exact Nvidia series? You can download all drivers by another PC and save it on a USB stick.  NVIDIA GeForce 7025/nForce,  7 series Shader mpdel 3.0,  motherboard  Asus M2N68-AM, windows xp pro sp3, homemade,  lots of memory, ram etc. hope this is okay Quote

motherboard  Asus M2N68-AM
Go here http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2Plus/M2N68AM/#download and click on Download category, OS (Win XP)
Expand chipset and choose version 15.45 (08/14/09)
Then expand audio and choose version 5.10.0.5919/V6.0.1. (07/22/10)
Download and save both on USB flash drive then copy on your computer that needed drivers. Install Chipset driver first. Reboot if required.got this far    and then:  Desktop is in safe mode, received Copy Error - Setup cannot copy the file nv4_disp.dll - says:  Ensure that the location specified below is correct or change it  and insert NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP (32 bit) Driver  Library Installation Disk 1 in the drive you specify.

i needed video not audio controller or is it the same controller, still have yellow triangles beside video and ethernet controllers.  does it matter that i'm booting and doinf this work in Safe Mode?OUCH  used metal tweezers to take ONBOARD fan dust out, there was alot, and computer is now black with mouse line blinking and computer ticking like a clock.  helpgoing over to hardwarWhat is ticking ? ?
Sounds like it mat be the "clik of death" from the HDD which would explain your symptoms...
If you hold a pencil or tube to the HDD and your ear you'll know for sure from the vibrations.would a system restore to the time before the nvidia update ever started have helped? Assuming nothing wrong otherwise.
