Solve : Odd Problem Posting With Yahoo Mail, Other Sites?

Answer»

I'm on a Windows XP, SP2 and I am having an odd problem I havent had before with my Yahoo Mail, when I try to compose an email, the text all comes up strange boxes and such, I'm guessing like computer code, I have run every virus scan under the sun that I can think of and it finds nothing, at this point I'm out of ideas, had this problem for a week and it wont correct itself, if you look at the screenshot you will see the text under the Subject and Title all works fine, its just in the text box, has anyone ever seen this before or know what I can do about it? :-?Nobody has seen this problem before?Quote

Nobody has seen this problem before?
go talk with big yahoo guyI think it could be a page encoding problem.

If your using IE, go to the View menu at the top, go down to Encoding and there should be a list of options. Try to choose between them and see if you can read the text.Thanx Carbon, but that didnt help, guess thats not the problem....Quote

If you can't offer constructive advice don't hit the Post button. So you dont have any views on this patio? *censored*, you were KINDA the one I was waiting to hear from on this, you have help me large before....If you are stumped I have a big problem....
This isnt just yahoo anymore, its done this to me on a few sites as well, but not this one, its strange....Have you always had the Insert Photos button on your Yahoo Mail panel? When I logon to Yahoo Mail and open a Compose panel, I don't have that option?

Edit: Ah, nevermind. I found info on adding that feature.Wow, seems we have the experts stumped on this one....
Wish I could fix it....To me it looks like your browser has something set to not work with either active-X controls and or XML. The yahoo email and hotmail use XML a lot as well as scripting.

I would suggest going to your internet options and setting everything back to the defaults. This means hitting the advanced tab and clicking restore defaults and than going tot he security and privacy tabs and setting stuff back to medium. Than close IE and open it again and try yahoo mail again.

It's a TEXTAREA box, which traditionally uses a proportionally-spaced font, e.g. Courier New. Have you deleted that font? It may be corrupted, so you could try deleting and re-installing it.It's a TEXTAREA box, which traditionally uses a proportionally-spaced font, e.g. Courier New. Have you deleted that font? Im not sure what you mean, never heard if a Textarea box, how would i delete what your saying?Quote

Will try that, thanx....Still no solution..... :-?Create a Hotmail account or any other email account and try to create a message. Are you typing in English or in boxes?i have seen that before and sometimes when i surf the net like normal web pages that also happens it might be because of the explorer u use
like if u go on google
and wat if google only supports IE7 and above
and u have IE6 that might happen
but im not sureQuote

English of course....
How would creating a Hotmail account help?I mean like is the problem only with yahoo mail or with others too.Others too, but Yahoo is the biggest problem right now, cant send or get email with this going on....Quote

If you just want to be able to use Yahoo email, here is an idea:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/
and add Yahoo support:
http://webmail.mozdev.org/

This doesn't fix whatever has caused your current problem with some websites not allowing you to type text in a readable font.
But it should get you access to your email.

It is a round-about way of solving your problem - but it may have other ADVANTAGES for you. First, you just may like it better.
I do. So do many others.

You may have other email accounts that you can access with this free software too. Makes it fast, quick, and easy to check email.
In other words, I don't have to go to sites like yahoo.com, hotmail.com, gmail.com, etc., to check email anymore.

I rarely use yahoo email, but I check it occasionally. And I have no idea how long it has been since I last visited the website.

Just something to consider.....

If you have RECENTLY upgraded to the newest version of Yahoo, remove it and reinstall your older version.Quote

Thax for the suggestion, but that still doesnt tell me whats causing it to do in the the first place, I need to get to the root of the problem.....Quote

Yep - my idea does not do that.

If I were you, I'd be looking to Rob Pomeroy's reply - #10 in this thread. About deleting and re-installing a font.

After you get it figured out and fixed though, I still recommend using
Thunderbird. I bet you find you like it.

By the way - what browser are you using when you get that kind of display? IE?

Tried any other browser? What happens?

It does it both with IE and Firefox, if that helps....Quote

There's nothing to install, is there? I believe anyone can go to www.yahoo.com and create a free email account. The mail is accessed via a web browser; no other software is required. If Yahoo messenger is also in use, it can throw a sprag in the spokes. I should have been more specific.sprag in the spokes? Thats a new one, lol.....
I dont know how else to SAY this, nothing is running when I use it, not Messenger, not anything, period.....
But thanx to all who are trying to help....Quote

Thanx, will give that a shot....Still wont work, there has got to be a reason for this, I cant get emails anymore, please someone help.... Format your hard drive and start over. Have you contacted Yahoo at all about this ? ?
Perhaps they can move your mail to a new account...I doubt it would help. Back in reply #14, Carbon Dudeoxide suggested he create a Hotmail account or something other than a Yahoo account as a test. In reply #18, he seems to be saying he tried that and it didn't work, i.e. had the same problem. So, the problem seems deeper than just his Yahoo email account.Gotcha soybean.

Open Notepad and type something in...does it show up the same way ? ?
If so your font folder is corrupted and needs repair.Quote

No, notepad works fine, just used it today.....
This seems to happen in certain places, but not others, ita weird...Quote

Gee thanx, really want to do that.... A good format and reinstall will solve all Windows issues, for a while. Just bite the bullet and do it. Havent done a reformat yet, have to get a new disc, but this problem seems to be getting worse, its not just Yahoo mail thats doing it now, check out these screenshots of other sites doing the same thing, and this is on my fairly new Laptop....I'm hoping a one TIME bump may have someone here who hasnt seen this thread who may know what the problem is....

[old attachment deleted by admin]If it's a fairly new laptop i would be exercising the warranty on that puppy immediately...
