Answer» Hey I was wondering how do I get rid of pop ups? The kind that asks you whether you want to open a file. You know how before you run a software a pop up comes up ASKING whether you want to run it or not, well every time I press cancel, it just comes up again. Also every time I log off and log back on it pops up again asking if I want to run the program. Its really annoying and kinda worrying too.
Just to clarify because I think what I wrote is kinda confusing. The pop up SAYS... Open File - Security Warning The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?
I have internet security and anti-virus protection if that is of use.
Thanks in advance Not quite sure what you mean....
Can you post a screenshot? What operating system are you using and do you know what file/program is trying to open? The Security warning you speak of is actually issued by windows itself, and is not related to the security software you have installed.
try the instructions here:

To Carbon Dudeoxide, you were a bit unsure of what I meant so here's the screen shot of it. It's attached below.
To answer mroilfield's question. I'm using Windows XP and there is two different program it is trying to open. One is WinAvi Video Capture (I uninstalled this but it wants me to install it again) but I'm not too sure about the other one cause it had ____.exe (where this line _____ replaced a bunch of what would seem like random letters to me in front of .exe). I think agtcy.exe is WinAvi.
BC_Programmer The link you provided was very useful and worked until I turned my modem off. I have adsl. Then it just went berserk. Instead of 'Open File - Security Warning The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?' a Set-Up thing comes up and it just keeps popping up. It multiplies as well so now I have like 20+ on the bottom of my screen asking me if I want to set it up. I've attached the screenshot of the program it wants me to run. I kept pressing cancel but it just won't stop. I ended up undo what you told me to do so now I'm back to square one. Is there another way to fix my inital problem or a way to fix the second problem?
[attachment deleted by admin]Why bother? It's not a big DEAL but it does get pretty annoying. I'm also not the only user on my laptop. My sisters find it just as annoying as I do. The way I see it is like 'Why does it keep showing up even though I select cancel? Is there something wrong?' If there's nothing that can be done, then 'oh well' but if there's something that can be done than it would be great :) I'm afraid, you'll have to live with it. I do. This is not the only Windows annoying feature.Wait a second... Is this a file you are purposely running? Or does this just pop-up spontaneously? There's a heck of a lot of info here..
This one looks promising..
It just pops up spontaneously. I installed it (WinAvi) on my laptop once before but I then uninstalled it, ever SINCE I uninstalled it it just pops up, mostly when a user logs on but sometimes it would spontaneously pop up while we're logged on. If you cross out of it, it just pops up again and that just keeps happening. I even tried installing WinAvi again to see if it would get rid of it but even when it was installed the open file MESSAGE would still pop up asking if I wanted to run the program. Go to conrol panel then go to administrator tool then go to services then go to Security Center and disable it then stop it.
