DawnydGood EVENING dawnyd and welcome to CH

OPENING a word doc in any OS makes no difference. You just need the correct version of MS word. If you need to read a doc that was created in word 2007 if you do not have word 2007 then you can get the converter pack that MS offers so you can read but you will not be able to edit them you can get it from here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3

If the doc was created in word 2003 or earlier you need to have that version of word to read it.

MS word comes in 97 / 2000 / XP / 2003 / 2007 & 2010

Hope this helps, Mike Quote from: hartbeatmr on September 02, 2012, 03:45:44 PM

If the doc was created in word 2003 or earlier you need to have that version of Word or any later one to read it. Good evening Salmon Trout

You are right. I wrote the post incorrectly.

Nice catch, Mike  You can also USE Word Viewer if you need to view and print only if you don't have Microsoft Office installed.

not sure if ignorant or troll... >.>

Anyways, no. that will NOT work correctly. If it does work, it has to do with how Office files are handled. If you can't open a docx file because you don't have that version of word, changing the file extension won't do anything.
