Solve : Outlook Express Compacting?

Answer»

About once every 3 weeks I start getting this ANNOYING POP up asking me to compact my emails to save space. Space I have plenty and I don't need to compact.

Now my question is how do I disable this annoying pop up as I understand that it does this after I open Outlook Express 100 times that it triggers that compact pop up?

Thanks for any help you can give

Louis

Is the pop-up is really related to your Outlook Express? There is also a possibility that malware manipulates your computer. Wait for an expert analyze your issue. That's normal for Outlook Express.  It will prompt you to allow it to compact messages every 100th time it's closed.  Just let it compact.  It's a good thing, so let it do the compacting.  Do not INTERRUPT this process once it's started.  I haven't been on OE for a couple of years but I remember getting that message.  Never did it though.  I assume it uses some kind of standard file compression.

Is there any downside?  Does it take longer to open older files, etc.?

There's no downside.  Think of it as a a kind of file defragmenting and, yes, compression.  So, if anything, email messages will display faster after compacting.
