Solve : outlook.pst cannot be opened (upgraded from outlook 2000 to 2007)?

Answer»

I recently upgraded to Office 2007 and I am trying to import my old .PST file.
I get the following error message: "outlook.pst cannot be opened"

any ideas? You NEED to point outlook to the .pst file you want it to use. In Outlook click on File - Data File Management - Data File Tab - Add New and then point it to the file you want it to use and then click on "set as default".landa321, when you tried to import, did you select "Import a file from another program or file" from the list of import sources?  Did you follow the procedure outlined at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP030737381033.aspx? He doesn't need to import anything. That may be true but I believe an import is the normal procedure for transferring Outlook data from one computer to another.  Clearly, that's what the import command on Outlook menu is for and MANY references can be found about this.  Your suggested method may work fine; I just believe an import would be the normal way to do this. I've done this LITERALLY dozens of times. He doesn't have to "import" anything.Thank you. I was actually trying both of your suggestions without luck prior to posting.  The problem ended up being that my pst file was CORRUPT. I repaired the pst file using Recovery Toolbox and it worked fine after that. Okay - thanks for posting back. Glad you got it working.
