Solve : Outlook .pst file?

Answer»

My wife used outlook 2007 on my desktop PC (I prefer a web based mail server myself) and I have a saved copy of an Outlook 2007 pst file, then my computer CRASHED. After reinstalling all my programs and data my wife started using Outlook again and so we now have a second pst file. My wife has now bought herself a new LAPTOP and wants to merge the two pst files on her new computer.

I have looked on the web and found two sites, 1 states to go to TOOLS - services, but I cannot FIND a services tab, and the second states to go to file - open - Outlook data file and then drag in the files, but when I try to drag the file over I get an error message "The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file".

Any ideas on how to copy the first file over and then merge the second?

Many thanksQuote

I don't know where you found those sites but neither of them are steering you in the right direction. You need to import the .pst file. Here's a good reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/196492. As far as importing two .pst files, I get the impression from the reference that it can be done. I've never tried that but, in your situation, I think I'd try it. Be sure to retain the .pst files until you know this has worked. Then, I would make a new backup, via the export procedure, of the combined data on Outlook. Thanks soybean,

I have imported the files as per your link and it worked fine. My wife is very HAPPY again.

Sorry for not replying sooner, but I have been out of town. That's good news. Thanks for the feedback.
