Solve : OUTLOOK very slow receiving?

Answer»

Very slow receiving e-mails in outlook.  It is downloading byte by byte.  Doe anyone have any clues please? Is the whole computer slow, or just your internet connection, or just Outlook?
What did you do before this problem started?
When did it start? It's only Outlook downloading.  sending is OK.  The same problem occurs on  another PC on the same ADSL line.  Thanks for your reply
So has this always happened or is it a recent problem? It's been on and off for the last couple of MONTHS.  Did a tracert and found 18 hops with a couple of time outs?  But it's only a problem on incoming mail.

Unfortunately I think I'm coming to the end of my knowledge here, I'm far from an expert on Outlook
However, one last thing, can you remember if you changed anything before it started happening? No nothing has been changed at all.OK, sorry but I don't think I can help you any more
My knowledge of Outlook is very limited
If I think of anything else I'll drop back and post again
Hopefully someone else can help you out here, we have a lot of very intelligent people on this forum who can SOLVE almost any problem
Sorry I couldn't help and I hope someone else canOK thanks.  I suspect it could be Norton anti virus scanning.Call your ISP and give them the problem. Norton's slow but... byte by byte? Quote

Are you using Norton on that other PC, also?  Neverthless, I can't imagine Norton causing such an EXTREME slow down.  And, Norton scans your outgoing mail, too, doesn't it?  So, that seems to rule out Norton as the culprit here.

As Fed said, contact your ISP about this.  You might also try using Outlook Express as a test to see whether your email is slow with it, too.

I have spoken to my ISP Telefonica and they say as the e-mail is not theirs they cannot help so I'm STUCK basically. Quote

Why not do this to rule out a problem with Outlook?

Also, do you know anyone, or ask around to find someone else, in your area who uses the same ISP?  Having someone to compare notes with could be very helpful.  In other words, I think the ISP may be shirking this off.  The fact that it's not their email is obvious and is not the point.  The point is they operate the mail server through which the mail is flowing.

I suggest you also run a speed test of your Internet connection by visiting some testing site.  If you live in the US, I recommend www.dslreports.com.Thanks for your reply.  My father is also having the same issues, but we share the same ISP and our hosting is with the same company.  Our hostng company believe the problem is with the ISP connection, however the ISP-comms company are saying that they can only check the line and e-mail provided by them
