Solve : Pair of unkown devices?

Answer»

Hi!
I have a simple, common problem, but not finding the solution is driving me insane.

Over the weekend, my PC was ACTING real strange & I decided to reformat XP PRO MCE.
Looking in device mgr, I am left with 2 UNKNOWN devices...
I have this Other devices branch opened with yellow question mark
Just below it is PCI Device (with question & exclamation mark), & just under it is Unknown device, also with question & exclamation marks.

Odd thing is I have only 2 pci device in all in this comp. an EAX1600pro graphic card & a SB audigy4 audio card, both of which reports fine under their respective category in device mgr.

I am at my wits end trying to have a clean device mgr...update:
I have found the unknown device; it was ACPI driver for ATK 0110 virtual device on the ASUS dwld site.

As for the last problem device, I have it cornered down, but can't seem to grab it anywhere. I use this << Unknown Devices (by Halfdone Development) >> program to GET info about it.

It's listed as: PCI Device Acer Labs Incorporated (ALi/ULi) M5461 High Definition Audio Controller MADE by Asustek Computer Inc.

I find nothing over at ASUS, nor at Google... Have you tried to download the latest drivers for your sound card and install them. Based off the description of what Halfdone finds it sounds to me that it's related to the sound card, on-board sound card (motherboard chipset), and/or some type of decoder card.Hi,
yes for both of my pci device, I downloaded & installed their respective software already. I could be wrong, but I believe that the <> is an onboard thingy from my motherboard (asus p5rd2-vm), therefore its not vital as I dont use neither graphic or audio from motherboard, but the add-on eax1600pro & audigy4...

Because it may affect the operation of other devices even though you don't use it you should re-install your MBoard drivers from the driver CD that shipped with the machine...
