Ultimately I am going to be running about six workstations out of my house.  I am not trying to run a buisiness or anything like that, I am trying to get familiar networking.  I have my main general use station, and the family laptop.  Downstairs I have four test subjects.  Two are operational and two will be soon.  maybe I should be leaning towards a server based OS anyway. What are you trying to do exactly?

A whole server for six computers is a bit much, unless it were a medium sized business that needed user/password logins, and a full network drive that connects via a scrip on login. I am a networking STUDENT.  I am in  the early stages of my program, and iI WOULD like to be ahead of the game.  I realize I am a long way away from running all six work stations together.  I am trying to educate myself along the way by experimenting with different operating systems and hardware changes.  I have been picking up some units that are a little dated that need minor repair.  One just needed the hard drive ERASED and reformatted, the other had the bios system LOCKED.  I am waiting for parts delivery for the other two.  In my SPARE time I have been looking for the equipment needed to run such an operation.
