Solve : Partitioning my external hard drive?

Answer»

Me again
I have an external Western Digital 300GB hard drive that I have only used as storage BASICALLY. I only have a 6GB hard drive running my operating system. I try to put all my downloads etc. onto the external, but I eventually have the same problem over and over. I know there are ways to partition my 300GB so that I can run an OS on it but I don't know exactly how to do it, and I am so nervous I will mess up and lose files, etc. I need advise and/or instructions badly! Please HELP!

-Thanking you in advance,
kimiismeXP will not boot properly from an external HDD without an awful lot of messing around...this is by design.
The best thing you could do is get a larger INTERNAL hard drive.
You could then use the manuf. software that is Free with the hard drive to "clone" the 6G to the new drive and all your data and programs will be intact and you will now be booting up to the newer larger hard drive...
Post back for more instructions if you decide this is what you want to do...and your external HDD will probably be USB connected. Which is a lot slower.

more internal storage is what you need I just picked up some 200 gig. IDE DRIVES with 8 meg. cache for $40 delivered. Storage has really gotten cheap and should not be a stumbling point.try to clone your 6gb hd to your 300gb hdQuote from: daryllsilorio on June 01, 2008, 04:21:19 AM
