Solve : PCI without drivers--code 28 and code 1? |
Answer» I can't get the drivers for my PCI Device installed. I'm running Windows 2000 professional edition. I have the drivers on my desktop--the Creative Soundblaster AudioPCI diagnostics, and "Audio: Analog Devices AD1885 Integrated Audio version A19." I was originally getting a code 28 on the PCI, "drivers not installed." So I followed the directions on the Microsoft site and uninstalled, then REINSTALLED the PCI. Now I'm getting code 1, "the device is not configured correctly." I can't get the drivers for my PCI Device installed. I'm running Windows 2000 professional edition. Download and run Everest Home to see what is the correct audio driver you need. http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Everest-Home-Edition.shtml Is this an onboard chip or an add on card you are attempting to use? What computer or motherboard make/model? Run the System report and post it here if you do not know these things. The IT guy did it (the drivers and sound device), couldn't get the sound working, and hasn't been back. The beeping is driving me CRAZY. So anything on this computer is not my fault--I'm just trying to fix it. And I know very little, so I need step-by-step "go here and click this, type this," type instructions. My gratitude for your help is eternal. I downloaded and RAN a report, which I've attached. I've never used Everest before, so I'm afraid I don't know where IN Everest to go to find out what driver I need. :-/Here is your sound chip: Analog Devices AD1885 Intel 82801BA ICH2X - AC'97 Audio Controller So the Soundblaster driver is wrong and may have fouled things. More importantly you have a GX150, so ALL of the correct drivers are on the Dell site. The one for the sound is here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R45973&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P3C_GX150&os=WNT5&osl=en&deviceid=691&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=2&formatcnt=1&libid=3&fileid=53829 Click on where it says Download Here. Save the file and then double click on it to install the drivers. Before doing this go to Control Panel and remove and entried for sound (near the bottom) What happens now after the new drivers are installed and a reboot? (Your IT guy did you a disservice. I don't trust his judgement.)Okay, I have the driver, but I'm not clear on what I'm supposed to remove.Go to Control Panel and remove any entries for sound (near the bottom) If this has been done, or you see no entries or you do not know what to do, just double click on the file you download and when asked choose "Run From Current Location" and take the default choices. Reboot the machine. Post back. |
