Solve : Periodic system freeze/crash?

I'm running Windows 2000 Pro and lately any time I ACCESS a web page with a larger java script or flash it freezes my browser (both IE 6 and Mozilla). A few MOMENTS later, the whole system freezes and I need to reboot. Any suggestions? This just happened out of the blue; if anyone can help, I'd be appreciative and can supply further info.

I assume you have done all three of these?Yes, I have. Sorry. I should have specified that I run those as a matter of course.See if there are any UPDATES you may have to install. I know very little about Javascript.
