Solve : Please Help, Connect a burner and restart player Vista Home Premium?

Answer»

Hi all,

My PC is running Vista Home Premium

I have spent the past 7 days trolling this great site for answers, but even though there is some great help, it doesnt seen to help me

I have had my PC for over 3yrs and its never played up like this before. My PC came with a NERO burner which was built in. This worked fine up to a week ago, when for some reason it said it had run out....

I search my program files and found a short cut which worked fine, but then a few days later it came up with this message: If you are running Nero burning software via windows remote login, you might not be able to access your drives for burning. This is a security restriction from windows.

I run Nero as admin and the message stops (like I READ on here to do), but still i cant seem to burn CD's. I best say it still plays films and I can burn dvd's via ConvertxtoDVD4, Nero only wants to burn images when ASKED to do music and Windows MEDIA player says Connect burner and restart program. Oh and I also tried to download other CD/DVD burning software and this wont work either, basically wont find a player.

I have tried, reinstalling the software for Nero, patches, updates (which there isn't any for my version), Going into registry editor, But cant find upper or lower filter, looked for In Group Policy Editor, but don't think its on my version of Vista. tried every link offered up to the part after its scanned then tells you it wont fix unless i cross its circuits with gold! Updated the drivers via devise management again nothing, restored computer to earlier restore point and run FULL scans and system mechanic has tryed everything it can do also.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated
Billy
Is your computer a laptop or tower system?  Nero is software.  Nero does not make hardware, so your DVD drive is some other brand.  Take a look in Device Manager; it should give you a clue regarding the brand of your DVD drive.

To confirm a point in your point, you can burn music to a disk.  Is that right?  And, what other burning software did you try?

Did you get some Windows updates just before this problem started?  What antivirus and anti-spyware protections do you have?Seems System Mechanic has sorted the problem out for now. Seems it may have been a reg problem as I ran the optimize program and it did a full system count and woola!

If anyone else has the same problem I do fulling recommend  http://www.iolo.com/system-mechanic/standard/ Cost a little for what it does and what it can do is completely keep everything in order...just wish I had run that part of the program earlier  System Mechanic has some bad reviews at http://download.cnet.com/System-Mechanic/3000-18512_4-10030183.html and I know many of the forum members here have a negative view of it and of registry cleaners in general.
