Have you tried Windows Update to see if it has a driver there?
Never use Windows Updates to update non-M$ driver. You have to adjust your link to show the download page, because clicking your link starts the actual download.
...or simply provide your Dell service tag number.service tag number:
g9rth91AggroSkin...

Go to this page:  http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=G9RTH91&SystemID=XPS/Dimension%20400/9150&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Reinstall the chipset driver:  http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R114566&SystemID=XPS/Dimension%20400/9150&servicetag=G9RTH91&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=3268&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=27&fileid=1506541. I hate to work on Media Center Edition. I smell problems.
2. I hate to see SigmaTel drivers. I smell problems.

In any case, the page lists your computer as XPS/Dimension 400/9150. Is this correct?
Then, your AUDIO driver is listed as SigmaTel SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio. Is this, what you tried to install?
On the other HAND, Everest SHOWS Intel Lakeport i945G/P chipset, and Intel 82801GB ICH7 - High Definition Audio Controller audio.
Start with downloading, and installing chipset driver: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2115&DwnldID=16023&strOSs=88&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Media%20Center%20Edition&lang=engok i installed the chipset driver..
now what?Did you restart? Still no sound?
Now, try this driver: http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=205636
If NONE works, I'd assume sound chip being busted.nope didnt work

my computer might have gotten banged up so
i woouldnt doubt the chip being f'd up

this is HORRIBLE..

how much do they run for?Not to worry. Sound cards start at about 15 bucks.and installing them?Pretty easy.
It comes as a PCI card. You open the case, put the card into the slot, start the computer, and Windows will detect the card. You install a driver form provided CD, and you're done.
