Solve : ppl, pls help!! an annoying prob with my sound(card?)?

Answer»

hi members! this is my first post, here's the deal:
my foolishness led me to buy a p4 system in exchange of my celron1.7(in perfectly running condition) in very weird circumstances.... anyway, being excited, forgot to ask bout the manual or the motherboard utilities cd!!! and bla blabla...

ok guys, after replaceing the SMPS, CPU fan, ond other stuff, i got it running and now i realise there's no sound. i am seriously out'o cash after the unplesant surprises this pc threw at me, now i hope this is just a s/w glitch.

now seriously to d point dudes n dudettes-> on board sound card, everything seems to be fine in the device manager, but no sound at all. i've downloaded i845 chipset driver, but that's all i could. i could not find any other drivers and some others would not install. dosen't windows xp loaded with some or the other drivers for the devices? there is a display card in there, which works fine w/o a seprate driver.

control panel->sound speech whatever->Sound and audio devices
it SAYS no audio device. Now that baffles me!!
i've tried installing countless drivers. but i can't figure out who da *censored* is the manufacturer of the bloody device!!!

cud it be that the jumpers on the mthrboard prevent the card from functioning?
i don't really know how to configre 'em as i have no manual.
pls let me know if there is a way to test an on borad device somehow.

Please help people! i can't watch movies- no i can, but i can't hear anything!
besides, i have tons op mp3s on my hdd. not being able to listen to them is big pain the backside.
and by the way sorry for such a long post, but that felt really good u kno!The manufacturer should have the manuals available for DLoad at their website...

That being said DLoad and install Everest Home from majorgeeks.com ....
Run a report and save it as a text file.
Cut and paste the Computer Summary and Post it here as we have no idea of what hardware we are dealing with as it isn't in your Post.

Let us know.oops, forgot to mention the manufacturer's name. it's biostar, model M7TDB.
and i don't think it's website is of any help.
if u cud find anything there, pls let me know!
By the way, i did run everest,
the report is attached.
i tried to install a driver for that ancient ASUS card, it returned a weird error saying 'could not detect asus chip on this system'. now that's strange, coz i downloaded the precise driver for NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 M64 card. but anyway, what is a display card doing in an AGP slot? i'm quite SURE it ain't an accelerator...

pls go thru the report, really appreciate the help!

[recovering space - attachment deleted by admin]please god!! somebody reply...
anybody?? mr. patio???I think this is the driver but, you must first uninstall the
present drivers in the control panel system devices
reboot then, install these.

Don't forget to read the ReadMe file.

TryHere-ScrollDownThePageuuh i had downloaded a NUMBER of drivers, this one turns out to be one of them,
but i'll try unsinstalling my PREVIOUS drivers and then installing it...oh no, which of the 7 devices shown in the sound and audio devices PROPERTIES menu should i try to uninstall?Look for something that relates to "...sound device..." within Device Manager.

Alan <>< k, i'll try that, but i just discovered another massive problem. i have 2 usb ports, one of which isn't working. when i connect my usb mouse into the faulty one, the laser turns on. but the cursor dosen't respond. a usb mass storage device doesen't even register!
this is crazy, i have only one spare usb port, which dosen't work!!!!
any usb drivers out there? or can i change the power settings of the faulty one?in the device manager, under the Sound Video and Game controllers menu, only the following devices are present:
Audio codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy video Capture devices
Media Controll Devices
MPU-401 compatible MIDI Device
Standard Game Port
Video Codecs

which one are you refering to?
i assure you, the sound card is there. it's onboard.
any way we can test it for faults or damages?
