Solve : printer installation?

Answer»

I have a new computer Dell Vostro 220s running Vista and I am unable to connect my printer(HP All-in-One C5180). I have d-loaded the software from HP for the Vista installation. The installation appears to be going well until it tells me to hook up the printer. That's where it STALLS. Nothing happens after that. I've talked with the online help at HP and installed and uninstalled the software three times all with the same result. Their online help amounts to telling me how to uninstall and then install the software. Any ideas?I'm not sure what is causing your problem but I'll mention a point about installing software with Vista. When installing the HP printer software, you may need to right-click the program, and then click Run As ADMINISTRATOR. Here's a reference on this: http://www.vistaclues.com/reader-question-2/Thanks Soybean, but I don't think that's the problem. I've installed other software with no problem and when I try to install my printer, it allows me to go all of the way through the installation until the final step. I never get any error message. It just stops!Quote from: paulf on October 11, 2009, 08:49:48 AM

The final step is what, physically connecting the printer? In other words, the software appears to completely install, right?

Yeah, but SEE, here's the thing about this. Even though software appears to have successfully installed, it still may not work right. That's why, with some software, you need to right-click the program, and then click Run As Administrator. I'd try it; you've got nothing to lose.yes, the installation works fine until I attach the printer...then nothingQuote from: soybean on October 11, 2009, 09:17:06 AM

I'd return the printer for a replacement if it's still new...Just one thought - have you tried different usb ports?Allan:

I have tried all ports and even a new cableQuote from: patio on October 11, 2009, 10:14:56 AM
