Answer» Yesterday I downloaded several programs to my laptop to improve sluggish performance. Unfortunately I didn't keep a log of everything I did. Stupid I know. These are the utilities I ran, as best as I can reconstruct...
Absolute StartUp AboutBuster NoAdware SpywareBlaster
I also defragmented my disc.
My performance increased notably. But now I can't load my ebay homepage. I can log into ebay and do searches. But if I try to access My Summary, I get an error saying the PAGE cannot be displayed. I haven't noticed trouble on any other sites. And I'm able to load the Summary page from my desktop pc.
Any CLUES? Well sorry I didn't follow your instructions to the letter. But you were only one of several responders to my earlier post, and I DECIDED to take a little from each. Next time I'll ignore everybody else and take only your advice.
If anyone has anything constructive to add to this thread your input is very welcome, thanks.
I don't recall NoAdware ever being recommended on this board (or any other, for that matter),Unfortunately the OP's other thread was hijacked by the Mac menace. That can't have helped in this case.
Constructive comments? Be very suspicious of free downloads, especially ones that tell you how MUCH danger your system is in, and how much BETTER it will be after you use it. Always use reliable sources of software, and fully up to date virus checkers. Run those against ANYTHING you download.
Another constructive comment: the people who try to help here are all volunteers and understandably don't appreciate sarcasm from the people they are trying to help. Thanks everyone for their advice. It seems I found NoAdware on TuCows. I was under the impression that their stuff was reliable. Anyway I resolved problem by reactivating all the startup programs I'd disabled with AbsoluteStartup. Everythings running fine and I've removed the other programs I got from TuCows.
I'll go back and follow the previous instructions to the letter, thanks.
