Solve : Problem Playing Discs?

Answer»

Whenever I put in a disc I can hear it spinning , but nothing appears on my screen. I need to load my new Kaspersky Internet SECURITY and I don't what to do.  EVERYTHING was working FINE until recently. Today I got an external drive because I assumed the disc player was broken. This isn't working either.  I still cannot view anything! Something must have been corrupted or removed for this to happen. Can anyone help me?
I am using a Sony Vaio laptop and running windows xp professional.Try removing the laptop's disc drive and gently/lightly rub(clockwise or counter) the lens just with a SOFT cotton cloth. Careful not to scratch the lens. It might just be dusted. Click start then click My Computer. Does the CD drive show up there? What happens when you double click on it? You can obviously disregard this advice. Quote from: JJ 3000 on January 28, 2011, 11:49:05 PM

I double clicked the dvd-rw drive (e) and that page is empty.  What can I do?Does it read any CDs? Is it just the one that you have the problem with? Quote from: JJ 3000 on January 29, 2011, 11:36:31 PM

It makes  noise like it's loading when I insert a cd or dvd, but thats it. Nothing appears.  Same thing happens when i plug in the external drive. So when you have any CD in the laptop's CD drive, or the external CD drive and you go into My Computer and double click either drive, you GET a blank page. Is that right? Quote from: JJ 3000 on January 30, 2011, 12:26:23 AM

I put a  kaspersky cd in the drive, went to my computer, double-clicked and kaspersky was listed. I was able to download it from there. Thanks for the info.
However, I am still concerned why nothing loads automatically the way it did before. I still don't know what is wrong or what could have caused this.
