Answer»

Please can someone help? Every time I try to do this,it says there's no dosk in the drive when there is! I'm not very techinical so please could anyone explian very simply? I have Windows XP and I've bought some Kodak DVD-RW disks

Thanks

LottiIn order to save something to discs you need a DVD burner drive.
Do you have one and if yes which one?
And how are you trying to save the files to the disc?I'm just using whatever came with windows /the computer when I got it,will there not be a DVD burner drive there?? I'm not sure what you mean, "how" am I trying to save them?. Sorry-I did say I don't have a clue what I'm doing. Could you tell me your computers brand name and model number. Then I check if it came with a DVD burner.

You can also try looking at the front of the DVD drive. Burners usually have thing like RW and DVD r / rw written on them.
Thank you for helping.My computer is a desktop Dell Dimension 3000 . I can't see anything written on it.Since Dells can be bought in many different CONFIGURATIONS I will need you to go to the support site at Dell here. Enter your service tag (should be located somewhere on the computer) and click System Configuration Information to see what hardware was installed from the factory. Also under System Configuration Information you can click Current System Configuration if you're unsure whether any hardware have been changed or added.

Copy the parts lists into a reply here so I can have a look at them.Thank you,I've done that and this is what it shows ;

Unless the DVD drive have been replaced after the computer was purchased from Dell you have a Toshiba DVD-ROM drive. A DVD-ROM drive will only read CDs/DVDs it is not capable of saving to CD/DVDs.

Fortunately DVD burners are very cheap (starting at $25-30) so upgrading won't cost you an arm and a leg.Thank you very much for your help.I'll have to buy one as I want to save my photos! You're very welcome.
Be sure to come back to the CH forums if you need further assistance.Quote from: Deerpark on February 17, 2008, 12:33:51 PM

Er, that's a CD-ROM drive.

I thought so too but if you google the model number it is listed everywhere as a DVD-ROM drive.Quote from: Deerpark on February 25, 2008, 12:21:00 AM

Anyway the key point is that it is a read-only drive
