Answer» I have looked through some of the FAQs but to no avail anyway. I run Windows xp pro current SP I updated something and had to restart the comp nothing that would warrant this problem I start up normally get top log in and click the only user available it then just shows me my current wallpaper and that is all. I cant left click no icons and no start menu. Only thing I can get to work is task manager I tried the FAQ ending the explorer.exe then running it but task manager kinda crashes. I am currently running on my storage HD witch took some time to get to work and POST here on these forums I am also doing a scan on the other HD that is messed up though I have so much crap on it will take 2.5 hours to finish scan (avgFree) other than that I have no clue as to hat to do I would love some input Quote I updated something Like what?No its not that I updated anything sorry forgot what happened before this incident I did defrag with disckeeper deleted a bunch of file I dont use like movies and such nothing important I then restarted the comp witch I should have never done pritty much it I did change a crap load of stuff in my registry though I restarted several times Tuesday when I did that and nothing like this happened I got rid of file that where making my cnc 3 tw not allowing me to play the game that and stuff that same day to FIX my crappy COMBO drive to recognize blank media that didn't work actually though I restarted several times without a problem other than those things I have no clue as to whats doing it VIRUS scan came up nothing on the HD kinda annoyed I can always take the next whole week transferring data to this HD though their is a lot of other data I wont be able to put on this one or not sure if I can, though I would love a fix. Sorry if I ramble a bit or get of topic that and hope all that made sense sometimes I don't. Well, if you "I did change a crap load of stuff in my registry", then I have no idea how to help you. System Restore?Well I have tried system restore but the boot menu on here doesn't have those options just lets me choose what HD I can boot that and I cant figure out how to do it sing this HD.This is all unclear. How far can you boot in Normal/Safe Mode?Tell ya the truth I cant remember the last time I had to do boot to last known configuration or use safe mode all my problems have never needed either so I really don't know how to do either. In normal mode I cant get anything but task manager to pop up and even then altering anything crashes task manager.Time for a clean wipe and re-install of Windows...In Normal Mode, what happens, if you open Task Manager>New Task, and type in: explorer, click OK? To get to Safe Mode, restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key until menu appears.The thing is the menu does appear but it only asks what drive to boot up. Task manager just screws up it goes to looking like windows classic looking adn catn move it or anything kinda like it freezes left it for like 5 mins still nothing so no clue think clean install is all I got left got some of the important data on my large hd took me 2 hours to figure out how to find my bookmarks witch is one thing I needed.
