Answer» I have a Dell computer with Windows XP. My problem is as follows: I have been trying to use Skype to make calls to landlines and cell phones. When I do so the call goes through, but the other person cannot hear me - usually not at all, but sometimes a MUFFLED word comes through. I have tried two different microphones (one a USB, the other separate cables) and they both have the same problem. I have also tried these same microphones with my account on a different computer and it works fine. There is no problem making computer-to-computer calls, only calls to or from landlines and cell phones. I have tried removing Skype and reloading it, but that didn't help. I have been in contact with Skype online help and they have no idea why it won't work. HELP!!! Any suggestions? I forgot to mention in my problem description that I connect to the internet VIA a satellite -- I'm not sure if that could have anything to do with it... I don't know whether satellite would affect this. Does Skype have a mic calibration feature?
You might also try getting help from http://forum.skype.com/Are you able to determine (perhaps by making a small test recording of your voice) to your computer with the microphone as to what the QUALITY is like when you try to listen to it? Depending on the result this may point to a problem with the sound card's ability to deal with audio from the "mic" port.truenorth P.S. ALTHOUGH given that you seem to not have a problem computer to computer where i am ASSUMING the same mike is being used. ?Typically, satellite upload speeds are very limited for most home consumers. What does your ISP advertise as an upload speed?Quote from: belostef on May 19, 2010, 03:36:35 PM I have also tried these same microphones with my account on a different computer and it works fine.
Just to clarify. You tried these on another computer making a Skype to landline call and it worked fine?
Also, is the computer that they worked fine on using the same internet connection as the one that you're having problems with? (the satellite connection)
