I can play DVD's & burn STUFF on there, but when I put another disc in there, like a CD-R with files it takes forever to read it & when it does, it reads it as an empty disc & you see nothing in there. Though I can still see what's in that disc when I pop it in another COMPUTER. I can still burn files, but when it's done, I eject it & put it back in so it can read it, yet it I still get the same crap.

It's a HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4481B.Phantom_Savage....So lets get this straight ....it will play dvds and burn dvds , but it wont read or write a cd ........is that correct ?  Are you able to play a music cd in it ?
What operating system are you using ?
Is this dvd drive in a Dell by any chance ?

dl65  I can't burn DVD's SINCE it's not a DVD burner, I can burn CD's.

Here's another person who has the same problem, hopefully it'll give more detail since I'm not good at explaining.

Also I'm using a Compaq.Phantom_Savage...... Has it ever played cds ok ?
How old is the drive?
What O/S are you using ?
