HI

I hope I am in the right section. I only know a little about computer so please be patient. I have a problem with my HP scanjet 4200c not communication. I have windows 98se and the scanning software is HP presicion scan. I have gone right through the HP site looking for some help and can't find any. When I go to the scanners properties it takes ages to open and then it says on port \\.\HP4200C000 and the status is unavailable. I have unpuged the scanner and re plugged it in. I have taken the software off my computer and put it back on again and have also updated the drivers, nothing seems to be working. I have tried the other usb cable and it dosn't help. I know the usb connections are fine because I have tried my modum in both and it works. The scanner has previously worked fine, but I find when I have put on my printer I have problems. The printer has the other sort of cable and is on LPT1 port. I am now getting QUITE frustrated with this problem because I can't seem to solve it. I find if the scanner is working I have the opposite problem that the printer dosn't communicate. I recently had my computer reformatted hoping this may fix the problem but unfortunatly it didn't.
Please help me it would be much APPRECIATED. If I have left anything out please tell me and I will try and answer the questions. SORRY it took a lot to explain but I tried not to leave anything out.

Yes I did try that and everything else I could find that applied to my problem on the hp website. I am a BIT concerned about the properties stating that the status is unavailable. Is that what that area is supposed to say?

From DonnaHave you checked to make sure that the scanner is compatible?

[glb]Flame[/glb]I am guessing it is because it has worked before. I thought it may have had something to do with the printer because it seemed when the printer is working the scanner isn't. So LAST night I took both off and started over. I put the scanner on first and still didn't work without the printer. So I am totally lost. One day it worked and the next it didn't. Maybe the printer software left something on my computer. I have no idea. The scanner hasn't been bumped or anything it is in exactly the same spot it has always been. I might see if I can find a friend who can put it on their computer and see if it works on theirs and go from there. If it works on their computer it has to have something to do with something on my computer and I am determined to find out what.
