Solve : Problems with c: while installing games etc.?

Answer»

So ive bought a new computer from "Komplett.no in norway" and ive been struggling for 3 weeks with installing WoW , i get an error message saying that there is something wrong with C: and that the files became corrupt , i could install AoC BUT , i sometimes get crashes there aswell , ive done a disk clean , defrag , disk check , updated all drivers , even tried copying the wow from my gf , but then it only works for 2 days then it crashes ( 2 days max ) and i seem to get alot off "mini errors" all the time , like when i try to do dxdiag , it comes up alittle error about not beeing able to track a sound or whatnot , i know this is very vague info , but after 3 weeks off frustration " 2 off them when pc was on repair" ive not taken to much notice on error names , wich i probably should, but if anyone off u have had the similar problem and been able to solve it , id appreciate any help , it`s not fun at all when u buy a new pure gaming PC and it wont work

i can post info below about PC .

XFX Geforce 9800 gtx
Creative SB X-Fi XtremeGamer
Win vista 32 bit , ( fully updated ) Home premium.
Corsair twin2x 6400 ddr2 4096 MB ram

Intel Core# 2 Duo E8400 3.0 Ghz
Corsair Powersupply 550w 4xsata SLI
Samsung DVD burner SH-s202j

dunno if it`s any help but ive tried everything and u people seem to know your stuff , thanks for any help in advance "frustrated pc owner "
I think the main thing we need to know here is what the error messages were.

Also, when did the problem start?basicly the error started once i got the computer the first time , wich was about 3-4 weeks ago, i also get theese small freeze laggs / spikes whenever , like when switching browse window etc , sometimes alot sometimes non at all , there on about 20 sec and then computer starts working as normal , im currently trying to install WoW once again to get the error message so i can post it.

Here it is :

An error was detected while verifying the contents of the file "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data\terrain.MPQ". There may be a problem with your system, or with the drive at C:\. You can attempt to install again. If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support.

This is what i get from wow , and sometimes in AOC , i get disconnected and have to "verify my game data" cause it may be corrupt , but atleast AOC still works after verifying.
EDIT : ive also tried installing and all that in Safe mode , but that doesnt work neither :/ and the dxdiag says there was an error while "recieving extra sound information" roughly translated , got norwegian vista .I found this:
http://worldofwarcraft.filefront.com/info/instassistwell, ive copied every cd, and im trying to install , but once i get alittle bit into installation , to Terrain.mpq it stops , comp does not work at all , and it just stands there , no error msg , no nothing , been like that for 10 minutes now :S , is it that the file is to big for my pc to handle ? Wait, is this a real copy of the game?yes it is , purchased and payed for.Ok, so there is a problem with WOW. What else? You mentioned a sound issue?yeah , when i do the dxdiag i get a "warning text" or error msg , can copy PASTE and try and translate.

Error : Problems while GATHERING extra sound information.

The files ctaud2l.sys is not digital signed , wich means it has not been tested by microsoft whql, you might get a sertifikate driver fra the hard drive distributor.well , now ive done everything the PAGE said and i still get the same problem , atm i am trying a Prime95 self test , but i cant see how it can be the hardware as i just got it back from the distributor with the message that nothing was wrong with the PC .

hi

thanks to you.

i solve this problemok , so ive fixed the problem and for anyone who might STRUGGLE as i did here is what u can do , ( atleast with the wow install problems)

Ive tried everything there is until i did a Prime95 test , wich does a stress test off your computers RAM and motherboard etc , that was fine , so i deleted the files in Temp int files , did a defragmentation , and searched for all files on the computer with WOW or world of warcraft in it , deleted them , then i Downloaded the install client , (took along time) but well worth it , install went fine , and patching went fine , then i could just install the expansion as usual and now im downloading patches for the Expansion.

The problem was that vista sometimes has trouble reading big files such as "common.mpq/terrain.mpq/model.mpq etc etc , seeming they contain massive files , so the downloader installer has CUT up thoose files into smaller portions , wich worked perfect for me

Hope this helped you out , it did for me , and ty everyone who tried helping out.Heh, interesting...

As long as you got it working, I'm happy.
