|
Answer» When I try to update my iTunes I get this Program File (x86) error sessage that won't allow me to up date iTunes. Any ideas on what I might do to fix this? What is the exact error message? And you might want to post on the Apple support forum as well. The exact message is "Program File(x86) contains invalid character" Quote The exact message is "Program File(x86) contains invalid characterSounds like maybe corruption with iTunes itself. I have had to in the past, with a drastic version difference with a laptop that was dug out of the closet and turned back on that needed an update after a bunch of updates happened in between the last time I used this laptop and that point that it was turned back on REPORT there was an update and error out when trying to apply, and I assumed it was because the update had to happen in a chronological order and due to it being like 2 or 3 years since it was last connected to the internet, there was no longer an update path that would go from a few versions back to the latest. And it was an issue where you COULDNT just jump from say a 4th version to a 7th version for example etc, but had I kept this laptop ACTIVE and updated it along the way it would have gone from 4, to 5, 6, and then 7 WITHOUT problems. *The numbers here do not indicate specific versions, its just to describe how a computer can lose the upgrade update path by falling behind of the times with a update system that might have to happen chronologically, otherwise uninstall old and reinstall new or try to find all the updates in between if they exist to patch it forward to make it compatible with the update that is current. My fix was to uninstall old version of iTunes and reinstall iTunes latest version on that laptop.I can't uninstall the older version 11.1, I've tried. If I'm mistaking, I get the same error message when I try to uninstall iTunes. Try to uninstall using Revo Uninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html)Is that site safe?Yes. We're not GOING to have you do anything that isn't safe.LOL! Thanks. One last question, will my music and movies be lost when I uninstall iTunes? NoThank you very much! You're welcome. |
