Answer»

Hello Everyone,

My annoying boss loads me ADDITIONAL workload and job responsibility. This will be my first time to handle an accounting software, as in I'm newbie and no accounting BACKGROUND. I found tutorial links on Google but it doesn't meet my expectations. Does anyone know where I can get a free DOWNLOADABLE tutorials of Quickbooks? Exact link would be better. Again, I'm newbie in accounting and Quickbooks. Thanks in advance!

Oh! One more thing. Since this is an additional workload and responsibility, does demanding for a salary increase is reasonable? Salary increase ? ? My answer is Yes...
Quickbooks has a Forum...

If you are devoting extra time for these endeavors you should be renumerated...
Just IMHO...If your boss expects you to do the accounting with no accounting background, he/she is being very unrealistic. Why do MANY universities confer degrees in accounting? Because it's a specialized body of knowledge.

QuickBooks a popular small business accounting program and, I believe, fairly user friendly in the way its user interface is designed. But, still, having no accounting background is going to present some major challenges. Your boss should know this is going to involve a learning curve for you to encounter and I totally agree with patio that this should involve a salary increase. You might also see whether a local college offers evening classes in accounting and request tuition assistance from your employer. Quote from: soybean on May 27, 2011, 09:20:45 AM

I work in a finance department and my experience is that accounting/finance background is what is needed, and is all that is needed. The only IT skills required are the ability to switch on the PC and "drive" the software packages, and you can train anybody to do that. Depending on YOUR priorities IE keeping your job with this employer. You may wish to point out to your employer that accounting practices as they relate to commercial enterprises are most often subject to external oversight (as to method/record keeping/veracity of produced results/etc. The consequences of any of the previous being improper due to whatever cause can be extremely negative to the business and or accountant if so determined. If i were in your shoes and really wanted to retain this employment and additional responsibility i would INSIST on the proper knowledge training commensurate with what your EXPECTED new duties will entail. I hope you will take this advice to heart BEFORE taking on these duties. As previously stated it is a high level knowledge skill and cannot be realistically self taught no matter how great your motivation. truenorth
