Solve : Rcp not available?

Answer»

Dell dimesion 520
XP pro SP3

I have no INternet CONNECTION.

This started after I removed the nasty virus AV security 2012following instructions from others sources.
Marewarebytes Ccleaner was also use to finish and verify it clean.

what i have done to this point

attempted the simple repair connection... failed

Used the follwing CMD prompts

IPCONFIG RELEASE
IPCONFIG RENEW

the renew command is when i GET the error message that the RPC is not available.

afterwards i verified that in admin tools/services that RPC is set to auto and started also checked to verified the same in RPC locator

in the registry
I verified the the RPCss key exists....

What would be my next step?

In services are the DHCP client and the DNC client also running?

Is RCP not available the full error message or does it give you more info?

Same thing in safe mode with networking?JJ, Thanks for your help:)

The DNS client is started and set to auto.

The DHCP is set to auto, but not started
Went I attempted to start it i received the following message.
"Could not start DHCP Client service on local computer.
Error 1068: the dependency service group failed to start.

Was unable to check in safe mode. I will attemp later.

Forgot to mention I have also attempted a system restored.
It can "not" be restored to a point prior to the problem.I suspect you may still be infected.

Can you give us a link to the instructions you used to remove the virus? It would help to know exactly what you did.

Also, can you tell us all of the virus protection apps you currently have installed and whether or not any of them are running resident?

Try this:
Click start then run and type

sfc /scannow

and press enter. Have your XP CD handy. It will ask for it.

After that, if you still can't start the DHCP client, NAVIGATE to:

C:\windows\system32\drivers

and make sure that the following files are present in that folder.

afd.sys

netbt.sys

tcpip.sys

Report back with your info.

JJ,

Because the resistry was so screwed up... I did a BACKUP just in case... and use my windows CD to repair the copy of Windows already present, which at this time is being updated, along with nortoon 360.

bleepingcomputer.com is where most of the info. and tools was attained to remove this virsus
Malwarebytes, superantivirus, and Ccleaner was also used.
All Logs/ backups has been remove from computer so they dont accidently get restored .... not taking any changes on this one coming back...

In addition all restored points has been deleted...

In addition the sfc /scannow command was used also...

Thanks for you help.
