I have been TRYING to download the newest version of Java and when I click download a message box pops up that says "Norton Antivirus was unable to scan your computer for infections. The virus scan has failed because some Norton Antivirus components are missing. Uninstall Norton Antivirus then reinstall." Okay, so I go to Norton Antivirus and click the uninstall button and a message box pops up that says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed. PLEASE help, I don't know what to do and I need Java on my computer for work. Thank you in advance for any assistance.Moved to the software forum.

To completely remove Norton/Symantec go to ADD remove programs and uninstall anything with Norton, Symantec or Live Update in the name.

Download the Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT) to your Desktop.

Once downloaded please close ALL open browsers, also save any work because this may REQUIRE a restart.

• Go to your desktop and double click on the removal tool and then click Setup.
  
• Once open Click Next
  
• Accept the license agreement and click Next
  
• Type in the letters/numbers that you see into the text box then click Next.
  
• Then click Next and the tool will start running.
  
• Once finished restart the PC and run the tool again to ensure everything has been removed.
