Solve : Recovering deleted data..... Norton Ghost?? |
|
Answer» So... Somebody I know had a computer with 2 hard drives, an OS drive (dual boot XP and Ubuntu) and a data drive. They went to do a reinstall of the OSes but they accidentally INSTALLED the OS over top all their data! Not unless they created an image with Ghost and want to restore it.Okay, they did not have a Norton Ghost backup image. Well, they reinstalled an OS over it all so I'm not terribly hopeful. So the only real way to get their data back is to take it to a professional then? There is a tool CALLED GetDataBack NTFS which is FREE to try to see if it detects needed files, but have to buy to transfer found files to an alternate location to perform recovery. I haven't tried it on a drive that has been potentially completely overwritten, but if it works its far cheaper than a data recovery center. I bought this GetDataBack NTFS software as a bundle package with Getdataback FAT and GetDataBack RAID for like $80 about 5 years ago. It has been successful for getting most of the data off of crashed hard drives that still spin. Even had a laptop hard drive with the continuous clunk of death able to recover more than 80% of the data off of, however it had to run on this drive continuously clunking for 5 DAYS on a 13GB IDE laptop drive.Quote from: Allan on February 08, 2013, 05:46:18 AM There are companies who do this for a living, but they are very expensive.Does anyone have a clue what software professionals would use to recover the data?Very expensive, very proprietary software.Quote from: Allan on February 14, 2013, 05:31:09 AM Very expensive, very proprietary software. Sometimes bespoke or written in house, and used by very experienced and knowledgeable people. Quote from: Cityscape Well, they reinstalled an OS over it all so I'm not terribly hopeful.
