Answer» Hi, I'm running a new Vista machine using the old MS Office XP, and while trying to save an old MS Word document (typed in Office XP) an error message popped up saying that something was unable to communicated with the source, and after retrying a couple times I hit "cancel" and Word started to save a RECOVERY file and then quit.
When I LOOKED back in the drive that had the original word document (.doc) it was no longer there. I found the recovered file as a .txt in my C drive (users/documents), but when I opened it using NOTEPAD it was 50 pages of "?" marks. When I changed the extension to a .doc file the same 50 pages came up with the same "?" marks. I've tried various recovery software and TRICKS from Microsoft to no avail.
The file is pretty important and losing it has been hard for me. Any help WOULD be appreciated... Gratefully yours
