Solve : Router encryption???

Answer»

i wish to know what router encryption is because i cant get my OLD imacg3 to connect to my n signal router and i was told by the ibookguy from youtube to change my encryption to WEP or none. can someone eplain this to me?These are wireless security settings for your router. They can be labeled as level of security since they are described on vulnerabilities and functions.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_security
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Protected_Accessso according to the article WEP encryption is just less security, so its not worth using airport on my old imac G3 because hackers will break into my network? is that correct? If you check your wireless card properties on security tab, what type of security encryption is available? The router has CERTAIN encryption features that you could match with the imacg3 airport card. If there is not any WEP/WPA type of feature under the wifi card, then you are left with having none or an open wifi connection. Additionally, you will have to configure other computers connecting regularly to be able to use the wifi connection. This means also that your neighbors could access your wireless connection freely and so privacy and security is a null.wireless properties tab in what? mac osx 10.2.8 or in the browser im using? You must configure you wifi card to be able to communicate with the router wireless security settings. Depending on the airport card firmware support. If WEP is the only available encryption for the adapter, you must set it as WEP and also access the router settings. To access those would LOOK like this, but for an XP system :

You need to configure the properties of your wireless connection. Right Click the “Wireless Network Connection”, See picture above.
Select “Properties”.After you open the properties of your wireless connection you should see a screen similar to the one below.

Check the box “Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings”.
Now look at the bottom of your wireless network connection’s properties, pictured below. If you see you wireless network list, just double left click-it. If you do not see your network, left click the “Add” Button.
Text Box: Double-click, or manual “Add” your wireless network.

By double-clicking your network or by clicking the “Add” button you will open the window pictured below.

Before you can enter your information, you must un-check “The key is provided for me automatically”
Enter your Wireless Settings you were provided. Lan-Sol labels your Wireless Router with the required “Settings”.

Your INVOICES also have your settings listed.

        “Network name (SSID):
        “Network Authentication:”

Most Wireless network setups use “Open”
Some network setup by Lan-Sol have “Shared” authentication.  Some home networks may use “Open” authentication.  “Data encryption:”
Typically you should enter “WEP”
Enter your “Network key:”, and “confirm network key:”This “Network key” may be labeled as “WEP KEY:” OR “SHARED KEY:” on your Wireless Router
Double check the “key index (advanced):” All most every wireless network use key index 1.
Double check all your settings, then click “Ok”
Enter the settings label on your Wireless Router.
You’re done configuring your security setting; Windows should pop-up a message informing you of your connection.
