Answer» I use WINDOWS live messenger to COMMUNICATE with some of my friends, and every other time I use it, it runs msiexe.exe to put the start menu icons back. I keep manually removing them because my start menu is too long as it is, but it just keeps putting them back. Anyone know how to stop this?
Also, I use the windows start menu with the desktop toolbar instead of desktop icons. I can't seem to remove IE from the icons, every time I do it just... Respawns... Its not on my desktop, just on the toolbar, and its not the quick launch toolbar I'm using either. To put it short, I can't delete the IE icon from my start menu desktop menu, I delete it, but it just re-appears. Its not in the DISPLAY settings, or even on my actual desktop. I've uploaded a screen shot of it below.
[recovering disk space -- attachment deleted by admin]Do they respawn after you reboot or... how long does it take?Hold on, just to make SURE, the problem is that the IE icon keeps returning?Yeah, sorry for the delay, forgot I posted this. And yeah, its the IE icon, pops up at every boot or if windows explorer glitches. Did this on several other installs, even does this on my desktop! I'm running XP Pro SP2 version 5.1.2600, IE is version 6.0.2900.2180. I only leave internet explorer installed for Apps like Steam that use it to access the internet, I dislike internet explorer, but removing it doesn't kill the icon, unless I go through and remove every bit the browser manually. But that would SCREW up steam, and other apps that require IE. Any idea's? By default, I use Firefox, right now IE is an ulcer I can't remove from the OS without crippling other functions.Try TweakUI, in Control Panel (or Install the new version) Either way, the option(s) you seek should be listed in the Desktop tab/Treeview Node, depending on the version of tweakUI. Simply deselect the Internet Explorer Icon, and the icon should be gone for good.Sorry about the delay, used TweakUI, it didn't work. And the MSN shortcuts on my start menu even came back. Rather annoying problem this is, but don't bother searching for an answer if you don't feel like it. Its kind of like having a fly you don't feel like fetching the swatter to kill.
