Solve : Should I update drivers??

Answer»

1 I have 12 DRIVERS reported to be out of date (many appear to be duplicates). I have read conflicting advice. Some say drivers should be kept up-to-date, others that 'if it aint broke dont fix it'. What should I do?

2. In Devices I have one two items with a yellow icon (probably the same device). One is described as 'unknown device' the other is 'unknown USB device'. As it / they are unknown how can I find the driver for updating?

3. I have been getting a return of BSOD with the message Driver Power State FAILURE, which I have not had for some time. Does this suggest a driver(s) need updating. How do I find which? All your drivers are at the manuf. site...if it's a laptop ONLY use the ones from the site...if a desktop start with the MBoard drivers 1st...then any other peripheral drivers such as vid card sound card etc...
Chipset drivers 1st...then a re-boot and then all others.Drivers should only be updated if there is a specific need or reason to do so. For all extents and purposes, there is no such thing as an "out of date" driver. Stop USING 3rd party driver software.I agree about your statement on driver utilities...they are pure garbage...
However he does have Yellow !!'s in Device Manger which is why i advised as i did...Understood and agreed - my comment was in response to his original post about whether or not to "keep drivers up to date".Is it likely my BSOD problem is due to the device(s) which have the yellow warning? If so what do I do about these responses:

"Expand the category and locate the devices with yellow markings/sign

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There are no compatible drivers for this device.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver."

These notices from Windows 10 leave me somewhat confused.

That post contains no relevant info...just error messages.
What devices have Yellow !!'s in Device Manager ? ?...we'll go from there.I gave as much info as I have in my first post to this thread but I will repeat it here: "2. In Devices I have two items with a yellow icon (probably the same device). One is described as 'unknown device' the other is 'unknown USB device'. As it / they are unknown how can I find the driver for updating?" I hope that makes my problem clear, what do I do about a device with a yellow warning icon when it is LISTED as 'unknown device'?
