Answer» I think its an onboard card, part of the motherboard. I used the Belarc Advisor Profile of my computer and this is the motherboard spec:
Board: SiS-651 Bus Clock: 100 megahertz BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 04/08/2003
I did a google search for the audio drivers for that, and GOT SiS 7018 audio driver. I use the installation wizard and it goes halfway then the wizard closes with no error message. In device manager the 7018 has a YELLOW exclamation mark next to it, and when i try to update or re-install, I get the error message "the hardware was not installed becuase the wizard cannot find the necessary software".
I've now tried downloading the ZIP file for the 7018 drivers. I used the "WINXP" folder, and selected the driver in there. The PC copied the files over, but then I got the error message "The device cannot start (Code 10)" Any idea why? Please visit the following page to look for the correct driver for your motherboard:

Let us know if this helped at all...My PC isn't a Gateway, its a Q-TechI'm sorry...I don't know how that happened...
Anyway...visit the following page for the correct driver for your audio:
http://www.sis.com/download/I tried these recently.
With the 7012, I use the installation wizard, and it closes itself everytime, halfway through installation. And with the 7018 (which is installed on my PC but no drivers) I use that, go through device manager and get the Device cannot be started Code 10 error message. Please visit the following page to let SiS scan your system to determine the proper driver(s) for your motherboard:

Audio Not SiS Audio device. Provided by board maker.
Belarc said my board is SiS. What am I doing wrong?Well then, we know the audio chip on the motherboard is not an SiS chip...
Also...I did some research and found that the SiS-651 is not a motherboard but a graphics chip.
We know the manufacturer of your computer is a Q-Tech...now if you could only supply us with the model of the Q-Tech...we may be in business or at least pointed in the right direction for the proper audio driver for your notebook computer.
What does Belarc report for audio devices ? ?This is what I get from Belarc
Multimedia SiS 7018 Audio Driver USB Audio Device
And where would I find the model usually?Maybe you could help us a little further and tell us what Belarc says is the installed motherboard.I get this under "Main Circuit Board":
Board: SiS-651 Bus Clock: 100 megahertz BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 04/08/2003
I did a "SiS-651 audio drivers" search on google, and from driverguide, DOWNLOADED a ZIP file entitled "a12111c". I used the setup.exe and it completed. Restarted my computer, nothing CHANGED. I then went through device manager, and updated the 7018 driver with the 7012, and still get the same error code "This device cannot start (code 10)".
