I've recently BOUGHT and installed some new parts for my gaming desktop:

*Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 SATA HDD
*Antec TruePower New 550W
*GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3LR

I also installed all the necessary chipset/network/sound drivers off the driver disk that came with my Motherboard, however whenever I start up Windows, the system seems to detect this "SM Bus Controller" as new hardware.

I tried to let Windows install the driver for it by itself, however it couldn't find anything.
So I checked the driver disk again for any MENTION of this "SM Bus Controller" to no avail.

I canceled the "Found New Hardware Wizard"

There doesn't seem to be any other issues with this hardware not installed.

I've checked the motherboard manual for any mentions of the "SM Bus Controller", and there wasn't anything mentioned.

I checked Google for an answer, however none of the results were relevant.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

WSRSM Bus Controller is controlled by chipset driver. Do you have any errors in Device Manager?Yes, I just checked and there's a problem device called exactly "SM Bus Controller".

There is still no driver installed for it, so it is not USING any resources.

It's listed as an unknown device on the PCI Bus 0.

I know I did not install any PCI cards onto the motherboard, so this may be a controller to manage PCI devices?Try re installing the chipset drivers.  It's not often that it happens, but sometimes a driver just doesn't take on the first go.Check the Gigabyte website for the newest chipset driver.I reinstalled the chipset drivers, and I saw that it did install the SM Bus Controller driver, so I'm going to check if its all ok.Let us know.I''ve checked the Device Manager, and there's freshly reinstalled chipset drivers there with no problem devices.

The SM Bus Controller has been installed under the device name - "Intel ICH10 Family SM Bus Controller - 3A30"

I ran a quick benchmark in the form of a game, and there was no problems either. (It seems my Nvidia 7800 GTX 512 is still GOOD, until upgrade time anyway).
