Solve : Sound abruptly stops, cause unknown?

Answer»

When playing sound of any format on my machine, it will often cut out suddenly. I know it's not my speakers because when testing in windows media player, the video STOPS at the same time. I haven't a clue what could cause this behavior, any ideas?A few details such as OS, when the problem started, shoe size, favourite cartoon character etc would be helpful!Quote

Well, thanks for your excellent advice! I looked around and found that DxDiag is the BEST way to go, so here's the file. Sorry it's so big, but you guys seem to be really knowledgeable and I figure you know what things to look for.bump- I have the dxdiag file now so you can see all of my system specs PRECISELY. please let me know anything you can find out by reading through it- it's all greek to me. My speakers are still stopping abruptly and I have no idea what the cause is
(note for new readers: I've TESTED the speakers, it's not a hardware problem)That's overkill on one hand but it's still not really enough info on the other hand.
When did this start?
Did you update the driver via the M$ Update site?
Visit the motherboard vendors support area for your board and download the driver directly from there. Uninstall the current driver and point the installer at your new driver.
