Answer» i just updated my computer to WINDOWS XP and now my sound doesn't work. I went through all the solutions trouble shooting provided me and i came up with this problem.
C-Media AC97 Audio Device *it has a this yellow "!" beside it This device cannot start. (Code 10) *i believe this is the problem but i'm not sure*sorry for double posting but can you guys TELL me which one is my sound card? i don't even know cuz i have no clue about comps

yup that would be it .......You might try rolling back the driver

Just a little description of what happened. My comp was really in bad shape so i had to reformat it and update it to Windows XP and now the sound won't workDoes it even have a driver installed for it?donocomps.......Try this .....click start /control panel ........now be sure to be sure that its displaying in the classic view ....( if its in category ...change to classic ) then click system........when system properties opens click device manager .....then go down to Sound video and game controller .....then select AC97 Audio controller ...click on it ...when properties box opens click on Driver Tab .......then click driver details or Roll back driver ........

dl65 i did as you said dl65 and thank you so much for helping me, but it says no BACKUP file for this driver and for the driver detail it seems to be normalDid you actually install the driver when you "updated" your computer to XP?
i have no clue..... i don't think soi havn't installed it because i lost my CD or if there ever was one.. T.T sorry for not mentioning this donocomps....Go to ....... http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en-us let it scan your system ...then click on the Custom Install link..........when it finishes look over to the left and see if theres any hardware updates ......if there is look at them ...there may be a driver update for your sound card .........
