Solve : SpeedTouch 330 Modem Drivers for Windows 7 ?? |
Answer» Does anyone know where I can get (preferably free) drivers for a SpeedTouch 330 Modem for 64-bit Windows 7 ? ...I have read, though, (generally) that installing the wrong drivers can cause irreparable damage to your PC.Irreparable? Meaning cannot be repaired? Complete nonsense!! Try the Vista driver, the worst thing that can HAPPEN is it won't work. Nothing in software is irreparable, hence the name "soft"ware vs "hard"ware. You may be thinking of firmware, as in BIOS flashing, now that can be irreparable.-> TrueNorth Thanks for confirming my suspicion (I've seen that page in rmy esearches, that what I meant by "Microsoft tell you that no such driver exists")- I was hoping someone had come across a driver that worked from a non-official source (eg not Microsft, Thomson or Alcatel) or could confirm that that a Vista driver worked. Meanwhile I'll mark tis thread as "Solved", though it isn't really -> ComputerCommando Irreparable I took to have the same meaning as you interpreted. I plan to give the Vista drivers a try, when I get round to it Dumb_Question 7.May.2012I am writing this post on my Windows 7 64 bit machine using Speedtouch 330! So after much faffing I can confirm it can be done. Feels great to have internet without a router, no need for another PSU, just connected via USB. If anyone's INTERESTED I'll post more info. This is the first time it gave me a connection, I have not rebooted since then so the process has not been repeated yet. The Post is over a Year old...i doubt he'll be back.I didn't see prols reams on how to use a speedtouch 330 modem on a Windows 7 machine I'm afraid. Someone (even myself) may FIND the information useful sometime. But for various reasons, not least the 'definitive' answer from Microsoft quoted in this thread, it has been superseded, mainly because I am using my Windows 7 system with a wireless modem/router, and connecting my XP system via wired Ethernet to the same modem/router. So I don't have to plug/unplug my ADSTL line between the modem and the wireless router now (this is especially good because the tab on this plug which holds it in the socket has snapped off) Dumb_Question 28.November.2013 |
