Solve : Startup - Are these things worth slowing my boot time??

Answer»

Hi, I'm the victim of a slow startup for my file on my computer. I was wondering if someone could help me out with discovering what these cryptic names mean and if i could uncheck them from run*msconfig*startup. I really only want to run my antivirus and firewall and printer. Let me know if you know what any of these things are and if they are safe to disable for startup:
"TAUMON C:PROGRA~1/agnitum/TAUSCA~1.00/TAUMON.exe" i think this is from Tauscan, some security PROGRAM i downloaded when i was a newbie. I've tried almost everything to get rid of anything "tauscan" from my computer, yet it still shows up on my right-click.
"jusched C:/program files/java/jre1.5.0_08/bin/jusched.exe" i'm guessing this is java updates or something, do i really need this?
"tfswctrl C:/windows/system32/dla/tfswcrtl.exe" uh...no clue here...
"DLBTtime rundll32 C:/windows/system32/spool/drivers/W32X86/DLBTtime.dll,[emailprotected]" ...um...
"igfxtray C:/windows/system32/igfxtray.exe" no clue...
"hkcmd C:/windows/system32/hkcmd.exe" no clue...
"igfxpers C:/windows/system32/igfxpers.exe" no clue...
"ctfmon C:/windows/system32/ctfmon.exe" no clue...

any and all posts are appreciated, Thanks!
We really can't decide for you what you want/need in your Startup list, only you can do that.

Go here and enter the name (e.g. ctfmon.exe) in the search box and a description of the file and its PURPOSE, and a recommendation about stopping/retaining the file in the startup list will be displayed.

Good luckjust go to Google and type the process name (Example: igfxpers.exe) and the first result will tell you what the thing is and you can choose if it is important to you or not.
You might have things LIKE MSN /background and other programs that you really don't need on startup. Thanks for the link! i was able to eliminate these from startup ^_^ :
ctfmon
hkcmd
igfxtray
jusched
and taumon

Hint: If you decide to disable any services it's very helpful to print out the Black Viper recommendations.you need ctfmon.exe if you use different languages in MS Office eg English and Spanish.

You will also find it difficult to remove from startup if you want to remove it, if you decide you want to get rid of it post again and I'll tell you how.
jusched can be removed from startup by going to Control Panel - Java - Update - Uncheck the box about checking for updates and tell the warning box not to enable updates. You will need to check for Java updates yourself if you do this, do keep on top of it because outdated Java can be dangerous. Speaking of which, your current Java is out of date, the newest is 1.6.0.2(updated) - make getting this a priority.Don't overlook certain maintenance procedures that can help keep your system optimized and performing at it's best, including startup time. This includes spyware cleaning, disk cleanup (get the Slim version of CCleaner), disk defragmenation, etc.run msconfig and go to startup TAB then click disable all.
reboot your computer.

nono, I don't think that's right. Don't you need some of those startup items for the computer to act normally?Yeah, xpart gave bad advice. "... disable all", absurd. You can disable them all but you will lose your AV, AS, Firewall etc.
After a re-boot re-enable them one at a time and see if there is any single thing slowing your boot time up.
Disabling them won't STOP your computer from running.
