Solve : stopping belkin wireless usb utility from loading at startup?

Answer»

wasn't sure where I should put this, but this seems like a good place.

I have a belkin wireless network adapter, upon purchasing it, I installed the software that came along with it, this software is ENTITLED- belkin wireless usb utility.

whenever my computer boots up, this program loads in the system tray, along with windows zero configuration.  the problem (annoyance) is that both the belkin prgram and WZC both fight over which one will get to control the adapter.

usually the belkin utility wins, which is unfortunate because I want to use WZC.  So as a result, I have to tell the belkin utility to let WZC configure the network OPTIONS, close the belkin appl. and then do a repair in WZC.  Opposed to just having WZC automatically connect to the internet when I TURN my pc on.

I have tried to use msconfig to disable the belkin program, but I cannot make heads or tails as to which startup item the belkin utility is.

Also, I am very willing to uninstall the belkin software.  But the question then is, would I still have the drivers necassary to operate the actual adapter?

keybowvio02 ...... Why not Email belkin ...or visit their site.

I read through there articles a little bit before, the results were:

"our software is better than WZC, so should should immediately disable WZC upon installing your network adapter"

well, basically.

This is why I thought I would ask here first, since I'm probably going to get an E-mail back telling me all the reasons why there software is better than WZC.

Oh, well, I gave it a try, I guess I should wait "up to 72 hours to recieve a response" From Belkin.

I'll be sure to let you know if I get anywhere w/them.Well actually Ccleaner has a good tool to manage your startup programs.
Go tools-> startup and everything has an URL next to it
Sow that will clear up WITCH Program it actually is.
Once you have used that you won't be able to use the startup of the program again or you will have to reinstall the program.

Jonas OK, so after my first e-mail to Belkin's support I got this:

Click on the start.
Click on Run.
Type `services.msc` and click OK.
Select Belkin wireless utility or service from the list.
Right click on it.
Click on Properties.
Click on Stop.
Click OK.

sounds good, but when I looked at the "list," "Belkin wireless utility or service" was not there

However, there was an item entitled "Belkin wireless USB network adapter,"  so just for kicks, I clicked stop.

Then I did a reboot, no change, both WZC and the Belkin utility loaded.

So, I E-mailed them back, and this is the response that I got:

its nothing will change any setting on your computer and you already stop that utility which will not run in your system backend processes. However, Belki utility still start with your windows program when you boot up the system because you are using the optional utility i;e, Windows zero configuration and you cannot REMOVE Belkin utility permanently because it is installed in your computer system and registered in the registry. So, do not worry you can continuesly use Windows utility.

Ummmmm, thanks  ? Not.

And their support seemed so well spoken the first time, and it was the same person who wrote back to me, both times.

Jonas-  I'll have to give that a try, I'll let you know how it works out.
