Solve : Storing and accessing DVD's from hard drive?

Answer»

I would like to be able to put a dvd into my dvd drive and be able to SAVE the MOVIE to my hard drive. (Don't worry, I own all the dvd's). I was told that dvd encrypt or was a good program to use but now that I have the files saved on my hard drive, how do I get them to play? I would also like to convert them into a different format, one that takes up LESS space, but still be able to watch them by clicking on them. how would I go about doing all of this? and is there a single program that will copy the files to my computer, compress the files and allow me to watch them?Hello

Firstly, to save time it's called dvd 'ripping' ;-)

There are literally hundreds of free dvd ripping programs to choose from, I use CladDVD although Free DVD ripper is quite good.

What format are the files that you have already ripped/copied from your DVD onto your computer? are they VOB?

If so, convert them into MPG using SOMETHING like VOB2MPG (what I use). You can play VOB's on your computer by installing codecs, but VOB takes up a lot of HD space so your best off converting them.

MPG or MPEG is the best format for saving space on your HD & is playable with any media player & easily edited in Windows Movie Maker.

You'll find lots of other free programs/guides here.

Let me KNOW if you need any more help
