Solve : Synaptics touchpad Dell vs HP, scolling settings??

Answer»

The TOUCHPAD on my Dell Inspiron 1525 (Win 7) will not scroll so I was going to check the settings but I see none for this on the Synaptics control panel. The vertical and horizontal scrolling zones are indicated via viewing the touchpad itself, but the control panel has no 'settings'. My HP 6715b machine has Synaptics touchpad with the settings that I need on my Dell. I'll attach screen shots of both machines to show the difference in control panel options.
I've tried updating the driver and I see no downloads available on Dell support site. What can I do to get this fixed?
As always, thanks for any help.

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]The options in the Synaptics control panel seem to vary depending on the make and model machine.  I just opened the panel on my HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC and it is similar to your HP but not identical.  For example, I see no option for one-finger scrolling, only two-finger scrolling.  Since my version of Synaptics is 7.5, a later version than yours, I would think it would feature the one-finger scrolling option.  But, my notebook PC was a model at the lower end of the price spectrum.  So, again, the make and model machine may be the key factor here. The touchpad top has the lines on it indicating vertical/horizontal scroll zones (shown in the attachment below).
This was my brother-in-law's PC until recently when he bought a more POWERFUL all-in-one, then sent this Dell to me.
I just talked to my sister earlier today but I forgot to ask if this touchpad had scroll ability when they had it.
It had Vista Hm Basic 32bit OS on it when I got it, and I've since transferred the hard drive with Win 7 Hm PREM 32bit from a Toshiba I own. But I don't see why a change in OS from Vista to Win 7 would have anything to do with touchpad function.
I believe this machine did have scroll function at one time and I'd sure like to get it back.

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]Did the PC have Win7 drivers and were they all installed ? ?No, it had Vista drivers and Win 7 drivers are not available for this Model from the Dell support website since this model was discontinued before Win 7 release. Dell has XP and Vista only for this specific model. No wonder...Can I download Win 7 drivers from a comparable Dell model that runs Win 7, and if so, how do I know which model to choose?I just re-installed the original hard drive that was in this machine and the scroll works fine so that confirms that the touchpad is scroll capable. I guess I need to try some Dell Win 7 drivers from newer models and hope for the BEST?Found this thread http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/56396-touchpad-driver-dell-inspiron-1525-a-2.html

Just to add to this you'll want to probably use compatibility mode to install them. Right click on the setup.exe file>properties>compatibility tab>drop down menu select Vista>check the box run in compatibility mode. Then install as administrator.
The RT 165805 seems to work in compatibility mode http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverid=88D7N
The mirror link from the helper is from a different source so its better to download directly from dell just for safety precautions. Quote from: jason2074 on August 18, 2014, 01:48:45 AM

That didn't work on my Inspiron 1525. I guess it's only for:
    Latitude E6400
    Precision M2300
    Latitude D530

I did get the touchpad scroll zones working correctly though.
I had downloaded every driver from Dell that I thought pertinent with no joy, then I remembered I have the original OS disc and also a "Drivers and Utilities" disc that came with the PC from the factory. I ran the drivers disc and evidentally the driver I needed for the touchpad was on it.

So I'm good to go and, once again, I thank you all for your help!
