Answer» id like to protect my comp as best as possible id like to protect my comp as best as possible (from an evil syndicate of duck hackers that put their BILL in my mail) OK people, how do we protect a computer from ducks...Quote from: Broni on January 10, 2009, 05:51:15 PM At least you posted AVG as the last one.... [emailprotected] Broni. I generally reccommend 'Avast!', AdAware and Spy Bot Search and Destroy. All are free and provide good coverage as long as you update them and run AdAware and Spy Bot regularly. Of course quite possibly the best protection is being smart on the internet, EG STAY away from Warez, Keygens, serials, but this still won't fully protect you with the "drive by" viruses you can pick up from banners and ad's, this is where the programs come in handy. Direct link to Avast! http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng.exe Note this link is direct to the Avast! website, not download.com or some other junk And while you are downloading, do not forget to do your FREE registration here http://www.avast.com/eng/home-registration.php Direct Link for Spy-bot http://www.spybotupdates.com/files/spybotsd160.exe And here is a page link for AdAware http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5947 Just select the closest location to you from the downloads list Wish you the best at fending of the nasties KurtisI personally am a huge fan of Avast, especially since it has support for a BOOT time scan, which is very useful for getting rid of viruses that have gone through, or removing ones that are on before installing. Never, I repeat, never pay for Antivirus. Big no-no's: Symantec/Norton, McAfee, trial based scanners, TrendMicro. There is no reason to pay for antivirus unless you are using it on a commercial machine. Quote from: Zylstra on January 10, 2009, 09:10:40 PM Never, I repeat, never pay for Antivirus. In which case, it's really the support your paying for; I'm not sure, but I don;'t think all the free AV programs support commercial installations.Quote from: BC_Programmer on January 10, 2009, 09:23:13 PM In which case, it's really the support your paying for; I'm not sure, but I don;'t think all the free AV programs support commercial installations. Very true, the license for the three app's I stated aren;t for use in offices and so on, only for home use, though you can buy Avast! enterprise, AdAware for enterprises and so on.AVG has a commercial version as well, I think.. I know Avast comes with a distribution console in the professional version. Who cant like that? Quote AVG has a commercial version as well, I think.. Yes it does but I dislike AVG I don't like even mentioning it I stood behind it many a year until Avast got better...then you may say I jumped boats because Avast has better REAL time scanning and Boot-time scans. For free, Avast offers, by far, the best deal. |
