Answer» After reformatting my computer I get this notice that I have 30 days to "Activate my Windows" I am on windows for now but limited to 30 days?
Does this have anything to do with "Product Key" numbers on my XP cd I use to format the computer? I did have to do it I think three times and now I over used the "Product Key" number and I have to get a new one?Is the operating system CD supplied by the manufacturer of the computer...or did you purchase it separately?
If you purchased it separately...you may have a problem during activation...and may need to contact Microsoft and explain to them you needed to reinstall the operating system...and they will supply you with a valid Product Key to use.
This is one of the major drawbacks of having a retail version of the operating system, as opposed to the OEM version.I don't understand the issue...if it's legit just do the online registration...if that doesn't work use the 800# to register.First off I believe this problem to be legit so let me explain. My brother in another state gave me this computer and after just talking to him he now tells me that:
Originally the computer was a Mil2M. He did not like the M2M so he had a shop change it over to an XP home edition. However the tower casing is an hp pavilion 7950. Now the sticker on the side of the tower is Mil2M and the CD that he gave me with the XP is for XP reformatting.
I did call the 800 # and I am talking to a machine of course and they are asking me for a series of numbers like 123456 and so forth.I don't know what is worse getting AVG to work or the Activation of Windows. The 800 # is 24/7 and perhaps even M/F the same recording.
So, what do I do after 30 days just Junk this computer. I looked on the sticker which is Mill2000 and the only #'s are not correct and my xp is a combo of #'s and lettersUse the numbers and letters from the XP CD if that's what's installed on the machine... I've never heard of Mill2000I've never heard of it, either. I ran an internet search, and didn't come up with anything, either. If you reformat a computer time and again using the same activation key eventually Windows thinks it is a pirated key being used on multiple machines. No way to fix it but directly through Microsoft help line.
1-866-PCSAFETY (1-866-727-2338)I am going to take a guess and say that when he says "Mill2000" that he means either Windows 2000 or Windows MEI have reformatted my Xp Computer MANY times, and I have never had any problems. I did it first over the internet, and it has accepted most of the times. If I get the message that I have activated the computer too many times, according to their records (I'm talking about Microsoft), then I get on the TELEPHONE and ring and 1800 number. This gives you the choice of revalidating the computer. You have to be prepared to type down a series of numbers. Then you can activated it. I have to give nan excuse of course. Like I had problems with the Windows or hard drive. But up to now they have accepted my explanation. Unfortunately the VOICE at the other end of the line can be very FOREIGN sounding, but they are very helpful. The 1800 number is listed on the activation screen, when you select to ring Microsoft to activate the Windows.
Hope it helps.Quote Unfortunately the voice at the other end of the line can be very foreign sounding To whom?Well to me. Although I have no problems understanding. Ok, I finally worked it out calling the 800 #
