Solve : Torrent or No Torrent? are P2P softwares bad?? |
|
Answer» Well I was kinda Intrigue with the so called fileshare softwares or P2P software such as bittorent and limewire but is it good? I heard of Full downloads such as Avast pro and AVG pro that is supposed to be paid for its full version and you can download it free. other than that you also have a bunch more of free stuffs from office app to computer games and all of these are free, are those in any way legal? is it safe to download it? is it by any means virus free? is it advisable to recommend it to a friend? well for me that is new(it was just last year since i got my computer and just recently got it connected to the internet) to the "Online world" it just sounds too good to be true... If you search for anything besides music on Limewire, there are a bunch of viruses. I heard of Full downloads such as Avast pro and AVG pro that is supposed to be paid for its full version and you can download it free. This is true, you can download cracked programs but this is illegal. After past experiences with torrents, I don't download them unless they are from official sites such as Linux torrents from their site.Quote from: mrky on August 23, 2007, 07:31:19 AM Well I was kinda Intrigue with the so called fileshare softwares or P2P software such as bittorent and limewire but is it good? There is not a blanket "yes" or "no" answer to your question. The answer is - it depends. The software is never 'bad'. It is how it is used that is either good or bad. Quote I heard of Full downloads such as Avast pro and AVG pro that is supposed to be paid for its full version and you can download it free. You probably can. Quote other than that you also have a bunch more of free stuffs from office app to computer games and all of these are free, are those in any way legal? Of course not. It is blatant copyright infringement. Quote is it safe to download it? Safe? meaning: could you get caught? Maybe. Safe? meaning: will it hurt your computer? No, it won't hurt your computer to download it. Bear in mind - you asked about downloading it, not using it. Quote is it by any means virus free? Maybe. Maybe not. I wouldn't trust it to be bug free. Think about it a bit - if one wanted to distribute their new virus, wouldn't this just be the perfect way to do it? Quote is it advisable to recommend it to a friend? If you are asking about commercial software, with copyrights - No, it is not advisable to recommend it. Quote well for me that is new(it was just last year since i got my computer and just recently got it connected to the internet) to the "Online world" it just sounds too good to be true... Back to the beginning: It depends. Downloading the latest Top 40 hit, or Spiderman III = Bad Thing. Downloading linux distro or Open Office = Good Thing. For example of a Good Thing, see: http://www.openoffice.org/index.html Note keys words, " an open-source project. " and " the product is free to download, use, and distribute. " Then see: http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ well to be honest, a friend actually recommended it to me... and it was quite popular in class(I'm a Collage Student) too. and I also tried downloading Transformers the Game(which was about 677mb in size cuz it was in .rar) on BITTORRENT but sadly i was stunned that the TIME it will take to download(base on bittorrent) it is 4days!!! so I was discourage... but my friends seemed to get lots of software and medias on from it. Quote Safe? meaning: could you get caught? Maybe.well my friends told me that it is "not that" illegal here in the Philippines(where I Lived)... but it is illegal if you tried to make money with it(e.i selling a pirated copy of a software or media that you downloaded) Im kinda confuse. well I know it sounds dumb but what "IF" for example I was able to download Transformers the game from lets SAY from a USA(or any country that consider it as illegal) torrent. "IF" they where able to trace my location here in the Philippines are they going to arrest me??? Yes they'd pick you up in one of those black ops CIA planes and fly you to a country that doesn't care too much about human rights. Seriously though, if you're worried about getting caught then stop doing it... it's that simple.Quote Yes they'd pick you up in one of those black ops CIA planes and fly you to a country that doesn't care too much about human rights. *gasp... quit scaring me... well honestly I was able to download something on torrent though but i don't think the software was illegal... I thing it was an online game called trickster online(do visit their website at www.tricksteronline.com) and the game was free to download and to play too. but it was STILL very slow to download compared on downloading it to their official website. I certainly think i won't get arrested for that... RIGHT...If it's available for free download then no, but you run the risk of the download being infected with virus if you download it from a unofficial source like a torrent on some p2p site... that risk is minimal if you use the download methods provided by whoever released the program.DOnt worry about downloading Admin edit: Linking to sites that link to copyrighted material not allowed.Quote from: mrky on August 24, 2007, 04:18:35 AM QuoteSafe? meaning: could you get caught? Maybe.well my friends told me that it is "not that" illegal here in the Philippines(where I Lived)... but it is illegal if you tried to make money with it(e.i selling a pirated copy of a software or media that you downloaded) Can't say. I don't live in the Philippines. Quote Im kinda confuse. Easy. Seperate the concepts of "right" and "wrong", from "legal" and "illegal". Illegal only comes into play if you get caught. Right and wrong apply whether you get caught or not. Bottom line: your own morals should make the decision, not basing it on what you might get away with. Quote well I know it sounds dumb but I doubt it. But .... does that mean it is not wrong? Quote Quotewell I know it sounds dumb but so that means I'm not gonna get caught? yay I'll Download as much as i want now hahahaha just kidding well since you said its wrong maybe I'll just stay away from it except for the download on official website like what you said Quote Downloading the latest Top 40 hit, or Spiderman III = Bad Thing.but I'm still envying my friends though, when they download a "functioning" software from torrents. but they do agree that most (if not all) thing that u can download in a torrent has a virus or a bug in itQuote from: mrky on August 24, 2007, 04:18:35 AM what "IF" for example I was able to download Transformers the game from lets say from a USA(or any country that consider it as illegal) torrent. "IF" they where able to trace my location here in the Philippines are they going to arrest me??? They can't arrest you! USA laws do not apply outside the USA. I know this is a surprise to many Americans, but it's true! It looks like you read it to mean 'the USA'. I read it to mean 'those with authority to arrest' at "my location here in the Philippines". |
