Solve : transfering data?

Answer»

Trying to transfer data from computer to another. The old is a me2000 the new is an xp. The data from the old was downloaded to a cd, but when I try to open on new computer it states it is read only. What do I need to do to transfer info?Once the file is on your XP computer, right click it, choose properties from the menu, TURN off the read only check box, click OK.

You can select MULTIPLE files at a time to do this.

When a file is written to a CD is becomes read only because the CD is read only, it maintains this setting when copied from the CD.

I tried that it keeps jumping back to read only.are you SELECTING 'ARCHIVE' after you unselect 'Read Only'?

Is the folder you are copying the files to, set to Read Only?

I believe that copying to a CD will make the files read-only. Go into the properties and change it after copying back to the new drive.I changed it from read only to archive PUSHED aplly and ok. When I went back into the file it said acess denied and I checked the properties and it went back to read only. What now?You are changing these settings on the file on the hard drive, not the CD, right?I will try this. Thanks http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/expert/crawford_november12.mspx
