Solve : Trouble with Word XP in Vista?

Answer»

I have just set up a new system, I have an HP Pavillion, Intel Core 2 duo CPU E4500 @ 2.2 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, running WINDOWS Vista, 32 bit OS. I installed my old copy of Office XP Small Business on it, and my wife has been running into trouble with WORD.

It types fine for a while, then, the typing doesn't register as it is supposed to. For example, the apostrophe (')starts to register as that little accent thingy (`) in the to left hand CORNER of the KEYBOARD. The accent thingy registers as the number sign (#). There are probably more problems, but at that point we give up on it. I tried shutting down the program and RESTARTING, and then it returns to normal. As far as I know, I have run all the upgrades and service packs to the program. Can anyone tell me what's going on and what I can do about it? As far as I know, it only happens in Word, but tomorrow I will test other programs to see if anything else is affected.

Thanks

BruceDid you remember to grab all the Office updates ? ?
You could DLoad and install Open Office (Free) to see if you still get keyboard errors...this would eliminate Office as the culprit and point to hardware issues.
Is this a USB keyboard ? ?
If so you could also try a PS2 keyboard.

Welcome Aboard to both you and your Wife...
